Women, Its the candidate not the gender this time

For my first blog post, I wanted to talk about something a bit more conventional than I normally would. I am the guy who is going to blog A LOT about the narcotic war, the history of prohibition, criminal justice system, and voting trends based on gender, race, etc. I hope you all will keep an open mind when reading my blogs as I will keep an open mind on some of your responses. I really enjoy feedback and new angles on ideas and concepts.

But, for now, I want to touch on the woman contender for the Democratic nomination for President: Hillary Clinton.
NPR radio did a story about how some women voters were or would be disappointed if she did not win the nomination, blaming the situation on gender prejudices, sexism etc.
I just wanted to do a quick blog about that topic because the radio article struck a cord with me. I can see how that feeling could happen. Socially, women have been made to feel second rate and always the runner up for things. They had to fight for their right to own land, to vote, birth control, and fighting their way up the social ladder. No big shock there that the first reaction would be to think the presidential nomination is any different. But I believe it is, atleast here. Though I feel all the canidates are weak here, Republica and Democrate included, I just dont trust Hillary. It does not have a thing to do with her being a woman. Its the candidate and their nature. I feel like she's all politics and no soul. As if I as a voter am merely just a pawn in her political game of chess. Not that I trust Obama either. But this blog is not about him.
Women must feel this as well. Because women voters are abandoning Hillary and throwing their vote to Obama. And this is telling, because as a group, women can be a smashing devestating source of votes for canidates. Hillary could have easily wrapped this nomination thing up by now if women as a group were convinced of her potential as a President, but they obviously are now. But do not feel bad women. This candidate has a shady history, a wrap sheet of questionable voting and comments that are coming back to haunt her, and I will not waste our time reviewing and picking apart.

I firmly believe if a personable candidate did come along, that did give an honest vibe out, and wasnt willing to do anything or say anything to get nominated, that canidate could easily get the party nomination and even win the Presidency, and the fact that the candidate is a women, would probably play in her favor that time, rather than against her

Well it was a good try at least

It seemed like a short 16 years ago that the wall fell in Berlin and Mother Russia adopted the so lovable form of government known as Democracy. But alas this seems to have all come to an end thanks to the great leadership of a man named Vladimir Putin. In the run up to the national elections for a "new" president since he had reached his end on term limits, Putin effectively used his training from his days as a KGB agent to silence the media, quite any potential rivals, and had his successor Dmitry Medvedev elected as the new president and himself elected as Prime Minister which carries no term limits.
Even better, following this election, was Victory Day in Russia a holiday commemorating the allied victory over Nazi Germany. In honor of this day, Russia did something it hasn't done since the days of communism. They rolled out the tanks, missile launchers, and goose stepping troops in a show of military power not seen since the days of Gorbachev.
So returns Mother Russia and another in a long line of attempts of Russia to move past a form of dictatorship has fallen by the wayside. A sad day for supporters of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Anybody remember how to hide under your desk in case of nuclear war?

And so it begins

Welcome one and all to John and Rob's Weird World of Politics. We greatly apologize that you have stumbled upon our blog, but since ya' are here stay awhile and read some of the many marvelous commentaries and original works that we have so painstakingly taken the time to craft and post for your viewing enjoyment!

For those that care, a little back ground information about us. John and Rob both graduated from the University of Memphis, what seems like years ago with their Masters Degrees in Political Science. Unfortunately John had the bad foresite to attend the University of Mississippi for undergrad. Rob attended the University of Memphis for undergrad. Rob's areas of so called (at least he likes to believe so) specialties are Political Theory, Political Economics, and American Foreign Policy. John specialty is American Government, History, Narcotic Prohibition and Criminal Justice.
Disclaimer: John and Rob currently do not work in this field and have gone on to other areas of education and work, but keep in good practice by discussing many areas of politics on a regular basis over beer at the local pub!

And in closing, please feel to comment, share, and our personal favorite argue regarding the issues we raise in the blog.
We just have two rules when it comes to discussions:
First and foremost: absolutely without a shadow of a doubt no discrimination or racial slurs about any class of people, religion, sexual orientation, or anything else I missed. Yes, there is a thing as free speech, but that should in no way be confused with stupidity in speech! This is an open forum where all views are welcome and understanding is required.
Two: intelligible, well articulated points only. Because you do not hold a belief does not mean you can belittle it. A true test of a person is to be able to argue a point with logic and reason, and still know that other people can hold a different view. Any violation of these rules will result in deletion of your comments and ban...yes...I said it... ban you from this blog!
